Short-Only Risk/Reward
Overview
The Short-Only Risk/Reward profile is built for exploring short setups independently of MarketAlpha's AI-selected Alpha Strategy. Rather than limiting results to the platform's current directional bias, it surfaces downside structures wherever they exist.
This makes it useful for traders and researchers who want a broader short-side view, whether for breakdown setups, relative weakness, reversal candidates, or custom short models that do not depend on the AI's primary signal.
This profile updates in real time and applies no fixed filters, so you can explore the full universe of short-side structural setups across all market sessions. To view the same short logic on charts, select Short Strategy in chart settings.
Strategy Focus
- Find short setups with favorable downside risk/reward even when AI bias is neutral or long
- Prioritize names with a clean path to target and limited support underneath
- Build discretionary short plans using structure rather than AI direction alone
- Rank short candidates by asymmetry, liquidity, relative weakness, or group context
- Combine downside setup data with your own technical or fundamental filters
- Use the profile as a flexible short research layer when the AI engine is not currently favoring short exposure
Filters Applied
None.
This profile is intentionally left unfiltered so you can define your own short criteria using the available columns, filters, and sorting logic.
Metrics Used
Short Strategy Structure
- Short - Risk/Reward: Measures expected downside versus upside risk using MarketAlpha's short-side structure. Higher values signal stronger downside asymmetry, while
-means there is no identified support below the current price. - Short - Path to Target: Counts the support zones between the current price and the projected short target. Lower values usually indicate a cleaner move lower with fewer obstacles in the way.
Group Weakness and Market Context
- Industry Rating 1 Day, Theme Rating 1 Day: Help identify whether the stock is trading inside a weaker group during the current session.
- Relative Strength 1 Day: Adds short-term underperformance context that may support a short setup.
- Industry Rating 1 Year, Theme Rating 1 Year: Show whether the stock belongs to a weaker longer-term group environment.
- Relative Strength 1 Year: Helps confirm broader structural weakness beyond the current day.
Price Action and Breakdown Signals
- Change Pre Market (%): Helps identify early weakness or overnight downside pressure before the open.
- Change From Close (%): Measures current session weakness relative to the previous close.
- RSI Divergence 14 Days: Helps surface bearish divergence conditions that may support reversal or rollover setups.
- Universal Pattern Detection: Adds bearish pattern context when downside structures are present.
- Tight Range: Highlights compression that may resolve lower.
Volume and Liquidity
- Volume All Hours: Confirms whether the stock is actively trading across all sessions.
- Relative Volume: Flags unusual activity that may support breakdowns or stronger downside follow-through.
- Dollar Volume Rank: Keeps liquid, actively traded names near the top of the results.
Fundamentals and Timing
- MarketAlpha Rating: Adds a combined view of overall technical and fundamental strength or weakness.
- EPS Rating, Sales Rating, Profit Rating: Help identify weaker-quality businesses that may better fit a short thesis.
- Accumulation/Distribution Score: Tracks institutional selling or buying pressure over time.
- 52 Week High (%): Helps gauge how extended the stock is from prior highs and whether it may be in a rollover phase.
- Next Earnings In Days: Adds event-risk context for possible catalyst-driven downside moves.
Default Sorting Logic
Results are sorted by Dollar Volume Rank (ascending) so the most liquid and actively traded short-side opportunities appear first.
