Update Frequency
MarketAlpha updates in real time across all market phases — including Pre-Market, Regular Market, and Post-Market — and gives you full control over how frequently your data refreshes.
Market Sessions
The platform recognizes four market states:
- Pre-Market
- Regular Market
- Post-Market
- Market Closed
These states are automatically detected based on New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) hours (Eastern Time), and they directly affect:
- Which metrics are shown or hidden
- Which session’s prices are used for tags, icons, and filters
- Which default screener profile is loaded when you open the Ticker or Group Screener
Update Frequency
MarketAlpha gives you precise control over how often your screen updates — allowing you to balance performance with focus.
Choose from:
- Real-Time → continuously updates
- Every 1 / 5 / 10 minutes → updates periodically without constant flickering
- Paused → data only updates when you manually refresh
Use the manual update button to trigger an instant refresh when needed.
When to Slow It Down
Using a slower refresh rate (like 5 or 10 minutes) can help when:
- You want to focus on analysis without the screen constantly updating, especially when studying chart setups, building profiles, or comparing filters
- You’re reviewing past performance or profile logic and want a static reference view for consistent evaluation
Switching to a slower refresh rate doesn’t just reduce screen noise — it helps you pause, think, and stay aligned with your strategy without distraction.
Meanwhile, real-time mode is best when:
- You're monitoring fast-moving stocks intraday
- You rely on tight stop/target execution
- You're watching setups in pre-market or post-market
Summary
MarketAlpha is fully aware of where the market is in the day — and lets you adapt how you work in it. Your screen, your pace.
