Searching Filters vs Symbols

The Universal Search modal has two search bars — each with a different purpose. Understanding how they work helps you move faster from idea to execution.

The top search bar is used to explore filters — including technical conditions, setup types, volume or price criteria, strategy presets, and more.

You can:

  • Type to discover prebuilt filters from community filter groups
  • See organized tags such as Top Alpha Setups, EPS Leaders, Relative Strength, or Gap Over Resistance
  • Use tooltips to understand what each filter does and how it helps
  • Click on any filter to instantly apply it to the result set below

Filter categories span everything from earnings and valuation to momentum, breakouts, divergences, gaps, patterns, and institutional behavior.

Type “Long -” to see a curated list of long strategy setups like:

  • Long - Tight Range at 20D EMA
  • Long - Bullish Pattern
  • Long - Red to Green

These filters instantly return relevant tickers with real setups based on the logic behind the name.

The bottom search bar is used to find tickers, companies, industries, and themes.

You can:

  • Type any symbol or company name
  • Search for an industry (e.g. Semiconductors) or theme (e.g. AI Infrastructure)
  • Click on results to open the symbol in Ticker Viewer
  • Right-click on any result to open the related Group Viewer

Search is real time and works across all market types: common shares, ETFs, ETNs, SPACs, REITs, and more.

Combine Filters and Symbols

One of the most powerful features of Universal Search is the ability to use filters and symbols together:

  • Apply a filter (e.g. Top Alpha Setups R/R 3+)
  • Then search for a symbol, industry, or theme to restrict the results to only those that match both
  • Results update live — giving you a scoped list of matching setups based on your selected logic and group

This allows for highly targeted exploration, letting you instantly answer questions like:

  • “Which companies in Semiconductors are top Alpha Setups today?”
  • “Are there any strong Sales Growth stocks in the AI Infrastructure theme?”
  • “Which REITs show Bullish Reversal patterns this week?”
info

When you combine filters and symbols in Universal Search and click “Open Results in Ticker Screener”, both the selected filters and the symbol/industry/theme from the bottom search bar are carried over to the screener.

Example:
If you select the “Liquid” filter and type “Semiconductors” in the bottom search bar, the Ticker Screener will open with both filters applied:

  • Liquidity Rating ≥ 70
  • Industry = Semiconductors

This lets you continue refining, sorting, or saving the exact combination — without needing to rebuild your query.

Why It Matters

Use filter search when you:

  • Want to discover setups based on structure, strategy, or fundamentals
  • Need to check if a specific filter is currently returning results
  • Are building a watchlist or filtering a universe

Use symbol search when you:

  • Want to jump directly into a specific stock or group
  • Need to explore a sector or theme in more depth
  • Want to combine filters with a specific name or idea

Use both together to merge strategy logic with market context and drill into exactly what matters to you.

Summary

Universal Search gives you the flexibility to find filters or tickers — or both — in one place. The top bar is for setup discovery. The bottom bar is for symbol lookup. Combine both to narrow results to specific strategies within targeted sectors, themes, or companies.

It's the fastest way to find what matters — and act on it instantly.
