Regular Market

Overview

The Regular Market profile is the classic market map: every ticker grouped by sector and industry, sized by market capitalization, and colored by its change from the previous close. It is the fastest way to answer "what is the market doing right now" during the trading day.

One glance tells you which sectors are green, which are red, whether the move is led by the heavyweights, and where pockets of strength or weakness are hiding inside otherwise quiet sectors.

info

This profile activates automatically in Heat Maps during regular trading hours and updates in real time throughout the session. The color scale adapts to the day's volatility, so moves stay readable on both quiet and wild days.

Strategy Focus

  • Keep a live overview of the whole market on one screen during the session
  • Track sector rotation as money moves between groups intraday
  • Spot outliers, single deep-green or deep-red boxes inside a neutral group
  • Judge whether an index move is broad or carried by a few mega caps
  • Jump from the big picture into individual charts with one click
  • Use as the home base view between more specialized profiles

Map Configuration

  • Main Category: Sectors
  • Sub Category: Industries
  • Box Size: Market Capitalization ($)
  • Box Color: Change From Close (%)

Metrics Behind the Map

  • Market Capitalization ($): The total dollar value of a company's outstanding shares. Bigger companies get bigger boxes, so the map mirrors the market's actual weighting.
  • Change From Close (%): The percent change between the last traded price and the previous day's close during regular trading hours. Gainers glow green, decliners glow red, and deeper shades mark stronger moves.

Practical Use Cases

  • Keep the map open on a second screen as a live market dashboard
  • Spot an industry turning uniformly green and click its header to open the group in Multi-Charts
  • Hover boxes for a quick tooltip read without leaving the map
  • Search for any ticker to see its day in context against its sector and industry peers
  • Pair with Advancing/Declining (Reg) to check whether cap-weighted strength is confirmed by breadth
