Ownership

Overview

The Ownership profile highlights institutional participation, float availability, and share structure across common shares. It combines reported ownership data with trading and structural context so you can study how concentrated a stock is, how much public float is available, and how heavily institutions are involved.

This profile is useful when reviewing stocks with tighter float, stronger institutional backing, or possible crowding risk. It also helps compare ownership structure with price behavior, market cap, and accumulation or distribution signals.

info

This profile updates in real time and includes only common shares across all market sessions.

Strategy Focus

  • Measure institutional ownership and participation
  • Compare the number of institutional holders across companies
  • Review float structure and tradable share supply
  • Identify low-float names that may react more sharply to volume
  • Compare ownership concentration against market cap and trend strength
  • Add Accumulation/Distribution Score to see whether recent behavior supports the ownership picture

Filters Applied

This profile applies one structural filter:

  • Ticker Type = Common Shares: Excludes ETFs, SPACs, derivatives, and other non-common-share instruments.

This keeps the ownership data focused on operating companies and standard equity structures.

Metrics Used

Price and Market Context

  • Last Price ($): Current market price for reference.
  • Market Capitalization ($): Adds scale context when comparing how much institutional capital is invested in a company.
  • Relative Strength 1 Year: Helps show whether institutions are concentrated in longer-term leaders or in weaker, earlier-stage setups.

Ownership Structure

  • Institutional Ownership (%): Percentage of outstanding shares held by institutions. Higher readings may reflect stronger institutional conviction, but they can also increase crowding risk.
  • Institutional Investors: Number of reporting institutional holders. Useful for distinguishing broad institutional participation from more concentrated ownership.
  • Institutional Investment ($): Total dollar amount held by institutions, which helps measure the size of institutional commitment.
  • Shares Free Float (%): Percentage of shares available for public trading. Important when judging how constrained supply may be.
  • Shares Outstanding: Total issued shares, including restricted and insider-held shares.
  • Total Shares Float: Total number of shares actually available for trading in the public market.

Organizational Context

  • Employees Full Time: Adds company size and operating scale context when comparing ownership profiles across different businesses.

Positioning and Support

  • Accumulation/Distribution Score: Helps show whether recent price and volume behavior suggest accumulation or distribution.
  • 52 Week High (%): Adds context on whether institutions are positioned close to highs, far from highs, or somewhere in between.
  • MarketAlpha Rating: Provides a broader view of technical and fundamental quality alongside ownership structure.

Default Sorting Logic

Results are sorted by Market Capitalization (descending) to bring larger companies and the biggest ownership footprints to the top first.

Practical Use Cases

  • Find stocks with high institutional ownership or unusually concentrated ownership
  • Compare float structure and tradable supply across companies
  • Identify low-float names that may react sharply to volume surges
  • Review whether institutional participation is broad or concentrated
  • Compare ownership metrics with accumulation, trend strength, and market cap
  • Build watchlists around ownership concentration, float constraints, or institutional interest
