Advanced Change Metrics
MarketAlpha includes advanced analytics for change metrics. Many change columns go beyond raw percent change by adding icons that highlight when price is breaking key levels or pushing beyond important reference points.
This makes it easier to spot high-impact moves without manually checking charts.
Change Close
During the regular session, Change Close measures the percent change between the latest price and the previous close.
This metric can also display icons that indicate whether the latest price is:
- Above the previous day’s high
- Below the previous day’s low
This helps you instantly identify range expansion moves and unusually strong weakness or strength relative to the prior session.
Change Post
During post-market hours, Change Post provides the same concept for extended trading.
Its icons indicate whether the post-market price is moving above the previous day’s high or below the previous day’s low, helping you see whether post-market action is structurally meaningful.
Change Open
Change Open measures how much price has moved since the regular market open.
This metric includes icon logic that highlights whether price has meaningfully cleared structure from the open:
- A green icon indicates price has broken through a first resistance area since the open
- A red icon indicates price has broken below a first support area since the open
This is useful because it confirms that the move is not just percent change — it reflects a structural break that often reinforces direction.
Where to Find More Change Metrics
MarketAlpha includes a full set of change metrics in the Columns Sidebar, including change values from previous days.
You can also filter any of these metrics directly in the Data Filter Sidebar.
How to Scan Support/Resistance Clears From Open
The fastest way to find tickers that broke structure from the open:
- Open the Data Filter Sidebar
- Go to Community Filter Groups → Price
- Apply Broke Resistance from Open or Broke Support from Open
This is designed for fast scanning when you want only tickers that confirmed direction through structural breaks.
Group Screener Usage
In Group Screener, you can apply the same idea at the group level.
Use change-related columns and filters, and look for group metrics such as:
- Cleared Resistance @ Open
- Cleared Support @ Open
These show the percentage of companies in each industry or theme that cleared resistance or broke support from the open.
A practical workflow:
- Sort groups by cleared resistance/support from open
- Left click a group of interest
- Drill down into the Ticker Screener to isolate the specific companies behind the move
Summary
Advanced Change Metrics let you move beyond percent change and quickly spot structural moves: breaks of prior highs/lows, meaningful extensions in post-market, and support/resistance clears from the open — across both tickers and groups.
