Patterns & Candlesticks

MarketAlpha includes powerful tools for scanning price action patterns and candlestick signals without having to manually inspect thousands of charts.

You can add patterns as columns, filter them instantly using community filter groups, and scan for situations where only bullish or only bearish signals are present across the entire pattern library.

For the full library of available pattern and candlestick metrics, see:

Price Action Patterns

MarketAlpha includes a large set of price action patterns you can add through the Columns Sidebar, such as:

  • Inside / Outside Days
  • Reversal patterns
  • 3-Day Breakout / Breakdown patterns

To scan for any of these patterns quickly:

  1. Open the Data Filter Sidebar
  2. Go to Community Filter Groups
  3. Open Price Action Patterns
  4. Apply any pattern-based filter groups you want

This is the fastest way to surface pattern setups without building filters manually.

Candlestick Patterns

MarketAlpha also detects bullish and bearish candlestick patterns for reversals, signals, and trend confirmation.

You have two fast options to scan them:

  1. Individual Filters

    • Open Individual Filters → Candlestick Patterns
    • Filter for specific candlesticks you care about
    • Choose between patterns detected at the latest regular close or the prior day close
  2. Community Filter Groups

    • Open Community Filter Groups → Candlestick Patterns
    • Filter for broader pattern themes such as bullish reversal, bearish reversal, and confirmation signals
    • This is ideal when you want high-signal results without looking for one specific candle

Universal Pattern Detection

Universal Pattern Detection scans across all MarketAlpha pattern libraries and candlestick models and counts the number of distinct bullish or bearish signals detected.

Two key rules make this metric high-signal:

  • It counts distinct pattern types, so the same signal is not double-counted across overlapping models.
  • It only displays when the detected environment is exclusive — meaning only bullish patterns are present, or only bearish patterns are present (not mixed).

To use it:

  1. Open Community Filter Groups → Price Action Patterns
  2. Select Any Bullish or Bearish Patterns
  3. Set the minimum number of patterns you want (for example, 3+ bullish patterns)

Example workflow:

  • Filter for tickers with at least 3 bullish patterns and no bearish patterns
  • Open the Ticker Viewer or Data Viewer
  • Scroll to Patterns & Trends to see the full list of detected signals for that ticker

Summary

Patterns and candlesticks are designed to reduce chart scanning time. Use Columns to surface signals, Community Filter Groups for fast filtering, and Universal Pattern Detection when you want clean bullish-only or bearish-only environments across the entire pattern library.
