Gap to Last High/Low
Overview
The Gap to Last High/Low profile colors the market by how far each stock is gapping beyond yesterday's range. A positive reading means the open is above the previous session's high; a negative reading means it is below the previous low. Grouped by sector and industry and sized by market cap, the map shows every meaningful gap in the market at once.
Gaps beyond the prior range are stronger signals than ordinary gaps, because price has cleared every trade from the previous session. This profile is built for the pre-market, when those gaps first appear, but works whenever you want the market's gap picture.
During pre-market hours the last pre-market price is treated as the open, so the map shows developing gaps before the bell. During regular and post-market hours the regular session open is used.
Strategy Focus
- Surface stocks gapping above the prior high or below the prior low across the whole market
- Find gap-and-go candidates with price already in undisputed territory
- Spot industry-wide gaps, when an entire group opens beyond its prior range
- Identify gap-fade setups where the gap looks stretched
- Prioritize the largest, most liquid gappers thanks to market-cap sizing

- Box Color: Gap to Last High/Low (%)
Metrics Behind the Map
- Market Capitalization ($): The total dollar value of a company's outstanding shares, so large-cap gaps dominate the picture the way they dominate the indexes.
- Gap to Last High/Low (%): The percentage gap from the current day's open to the previous session's high or low. Positive values mean the open is above the previous high, negative values mean it is below the previous low.
Practical Use Cases
- Run this map in the pre-market to build your gap watchlist for the open
- Zoom into a gapping industry to judge whether the move is stock-specific or group-wide
- Click the biggest gappers to check structure and volume on the chart before trading them
- Look for counter-gaps, single boxes gapping against their group's direction, often news-driven and worth investigating
- Combine with Relative Volume to confirm gaps have participation behind them
